Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is an international product testing system for textiles.
It has four product classes, which differ in the amount of residual chemicals they permit. The classification does not appear on the label.
Ringsted Dun has opted to certify all its products in accordance with the strictest requirements for Class I.
The Class I standard specifies very low limit values for, among other things:
  • Formaldehyde (can cause allergies and was added by the US to the list of carcinogens)
  • Heavy metals (can cause eczema and damage internal organs and the central nervous system)
  • Pesticides (can affect the nervous system, internal organs and fertility)
  • Aromatic hydrocarbons (perfume allergies and disorders of the nervous system)
All quilts and pillows from Ringsted Dun are manufactured without the use of harmful substances and chemicals. For this reason, Ringsted Dun was one of the first quilt manufacturers in the world to be certified to the internationally-recognized Oeko-Tex Standard. All of our European duvet covers also carry the Oeko-Tex certification.

All Ringsted Dun products are certified with "Downafresh Greenline", which guarantees that the down/feathers contained in the product is completely clean. The raw feathers are washed in accordance with the strictest European hygiene requirements and dried at a temperature of more than 212 degree Fahrenheit / 100°C, which guarantees the removal of: the H5N1 strain (avian influenza), keratin (down and feather scales), bacteria and mould, soap residues as well as other organic residues. For bedding products labelled with Downafresh greenLine only fillings are employed which have been thoroughly washed with water and dried at temperatures of at least 100° C in order to meet the hygienic requirements defined in the European standard EN 12935.

During the processing of such feathers and down, only environmentally compatible detergent agents are used preserving the natural properties of the filling material. The users of Downafresh greenLine are obliged to have their products regularly tested at an independent testing laboratory to check whether the requirements for hygiene, cleanliness and environmental friendliness have been met.

The trademark variation Downafresh greenLine signifies that the fillings of bedding products labelled with this trademark have been processed according to ecological criteria.

Companies that are allowed to use Downafresh® and Daunasan® have to be examined by a hygienic laboratory for their processed feathers and down, they document the origin and processing of their filling material.

In addition, Downafresh® greenLine marks fillings of bedding items, which have been processed according to ecological criteria.

Only detergents which preserve the environment and the naturalness of the filling material may be used. The users of the brand Downafresh® greenLine are obliged to have their products checked regularly by an independent testing laboratory to ensure that the hygienic, clean and environmentally friendly requirements are met.

GOTS - Global Organic Textile Standard

When you see this certificate it means that the product carries the prestigious GOTS-label.

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the world's leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria, backed by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain. The aim of the standard is to define globally recognized requirements that ensure the organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing all the way to labeling in order to provide credible assurance to the end consumer. Textile processors and manufacturers should be able to export their organic fabrics and garments with one certification accepted in all major markets.

The consensus of the International Working Group was that a clear and unambiguous understanding of the content required the Global Organic Textile Standard itself to focus on compulsory criteria only. The standard covers the processing, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, trading and distribution of all textiles made from at least 70% certified organic natural fibers. The final products may include but are not limited to: fibre products, yarns, fabrics, clothes and home textiles.

The NOMITE mark is the consumer's guarantee that the down product cannot harbor house dust mites. The case is woven so tightly that neither house dust mites themselves nor their food, flakes of human skin, can penetrate it.

It is common believe that people are hypersensitive to down and feathers, but the actual culprit is usually the small, yet very irritating house dust mite. The symptoms of a house dust mite allergy remind of what is usually experienced in connection with hay fever and asthma: swollen and itchy eyes, stuffy or runny nose, sneezing, cough or respiratory difficulties. House dust mites have optimum conditions in bedrooms with a temperature of 62 to 89 °F and high air humidity, and it is enzymes in their feces that cause allergies. A house dust mite can excrete 200 times its own weight in feces per day.

We won't be able to help you getting rid of your bedroom’s house dust mites. But we have made sure that they can come into neither pillows nor duvets – the shell is simply so tightly woven that the mites cannot penetrate through the fabric. This is documented by means of the Nomite certification, and you can find the Nomite logo on Ringsted's products. The rest is up to you: washing bed linen, cleaning and thorough airing will turn the lives of your unwanted guests to misery.

EN 12934 Class I

Did you know that down and feathers can be labeled in three classes under the EN 12934 standard? RINGSTED only uses new down and feathers of the highest quality (Class I). The other two classes are for inferior qualities. IF there is no information on "class", therefore, the product in question might be Class III. Class III permits the use of more than 15% recycled down/feathers from old products that other people have slept in.

Denmark is a small country in Scandinavia (Scandinavian countries: Denmark, Sweden and Norway). It is placed in the northern part of Europe with about 5,200,000 inhabitants. Denmark has traditionally been an agrarian country and agriculture is still a key economic sector. Since the end of World War II, however, manufacturing and services have gained in importance.
RINGSTED'S quality level is the highest in the industry. For many years we have been building up competence in monitoring the whole process from washing the down and feathers to filling and finishing your quilt and pillow.
